ABBA ET LE BLUES DES CHAMPS DE COTON !

En 1975 ,contactés pour participer a un projet allemand de collecte pour le cancer ,ils participent a une compilation " Stars Im Zeichen Eines Guten Sterns" et enregistrent un pot pourrit de reprises folk ,pour la première fois et la dernière de toute leur carrière .

le medley sera aussi publié en face B du single de 1978 "Summer night city".

le premier morceau "Pick a Bale of Cotton" est un blues des champs de coton !

les deux autres morceaux : "On Top of Old Smokey" et "Midnight Special" sont aussi de grands classiques tres anciens du repertoire americains ("midnight special" etait d'ailleurs déjà connue par le fameux 'creedance clearwater revival' ) mais les versions d'Abba sont tres speciales :

spécialement le 1er et 3eme qui non seulement des airs de heavy metal ,qu'ils perfectionneront sur 'hole in your soul' sur le prochain album 'Abba the album' ,ainsi que des sons très innovateurs et originaux de synthétiseur ,des sons semblable au scratch du hip hop qu'on entendra que deux ou trois ans plus tard a travers le monde !

Noter qu'en france Joe Dassin a fait une version française de 'pick a bale of cot !

As ,it would have been predicted nothing new ,no rare footage ,no really new questions to Benny or Bjorn (do you think that Money Money Money makes you more happy or what do people say to you in the street ?????)

no great mainstream stars (even those who attended the latest book of potiez ' party),only big Musical stars and young starlets , some songs covered two times while others not at all !

a part from the CHICO AND THE GYPSIES version of chiquitita in spanish which was brilliant ,all amateurism ,some covers sounding gospel ???? (the winner by Julie Zenati ) or like L'ecole des fans (little children) .(the only real cover was the "lay all your love on me" by Elisa tovati and member of "Mamma mia" cast)

the presenter trying to sound "very documented" throw some half mush-mash of truths .

this is very subjective but I felt disappointed that a public channel (even a third hand network) couldn't afford to dig in the French TV archives !

As a TV show it was a success but as a quality "covers show" quite a deception !
